Monsooned Malabar
Full bodied , very low acidity with a spicy, musky, woody flavour.
One of the worlds exotic coffees (?), If you cupped at our table you would be allowed to differ from that view. Monsooned Malabar was discovered by accident when a cargo of coffee beans aboard a wooden-hulled ship acquired a unique flavour after being somewhat exposed to the elements during a particular monsoon while negotiating the Cape of Good Hope. Exposed to the monsoon winds for a few weeks the coffee flavors become richer and smoother. Monsooned Malabar coffee is full bodied , very low acidity with a spicy, musky, woody flavour.
What is important to know is that our Malabar comes from Faiz Moosakutty and has done for some years. Faiz's coffee is a traditional weathering process, where the coffee is stored at the coast taking on the salty sea breeze over a 6 month period. This dehydrates the coffee beans, creating the traditional profile it would otherwise take a Clipper ship and a long journey to make. In some ways Malabar is a coffee roaster's worst enemy. It's old and musky, by design. In other ways it is at least "almost natural" and the process is the recreation of history...just in a weird way. But that could be Romance?!!

Surprise surprise
Having just tried this coffee I was really surprised bu just how good it is. The first thing I noticed was the light colour of the beans. However, it was the aroma that came out of the bag that struck me as being warm and comforting. It pours like nothing else I've ever put through the machine, thick, creamy and foamy. In fact you think it's pouring too long but as it settles like Guiness you get 30ml with a huge, dark crema. It has an earthy taste and the low acidity makes it so easy to drink. It seems to take on the sea air but it is smooth and oh so drinkable. I'll definitely be drinking more and highly recommend you try it.
